Tim Burton is now in charge of directing the Warner Bros. sequel.

The newest well-known celebrity to join the Beetlejuice 2 ensemble is Willem Dafoe.

Tim Burton, who helmed the 1988 original film and is now directing the Warner Bros. adaptation, started shooting the movie this week.

The cast is led by Jenna Ortega, with Winona Ryder returning to play Ortega’s mother and Michael Keaton returning to play the annoying ghost. While Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci are among the newcomers, Catherine O’Hara is also among the returning cast members.

While the specifics of the narrative are being kept under wraps, it is known that Dafoe is portraying a police officer in the afterlife.

The movie will be released on September 6, 2024, according to a Tuesday Warners announcement. This replaces Marvel’s Blade, whose preproduction was halted last week owing to the writers’ strike.

Beetlejuice 2 is being put together by a number of businesses, including Burton and Brad Pitt’s Plan B. The screenplay was written by Al Gough and Miles Millar, the makers of the Wednesday Netflix series starring Amandla Ortega.
