Potter fans, ecstatic!

Max has announced that it has ordered an original Harry Potter scripted television series, which will no doubt please fans of J. K. Rowling‘s Wizarding World. The news was made today on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles at the Max event for Warner Bros. Discovery.

The much-loved Harry Potter book series will be faithfully adapted in the new Max Original series. Rowling, who is the series’ author and executive producer, is reportedly heavily involved in its creation. The show, which will be broadcast on Max internationally and in the United States by Warner Bros. Television, will be produced.

The series will begin with a season based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and then there will be additional seasons based on each of the next seven Harry Potter books. Fans will surely enjoy this approach because they have long longed for a genuine adaptation of the books that stays true to J.K. Rowling’s original intent.

Max, which has been making advances in the streaming market with its recent slate of original material, would undoubtedly benefit greatly from the Harry Potter series. The Wizarding World brand has a sizable global fan base, so the series has the potential to be a big subscriber draw and boost Max’s standing in the crowded streaming market.

J.K. Rowling has the opportunity to return to the setting that made her popular and to continue developing the mythology she started more than 20 years ago thanks to the series. The final book in the series was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, although Rowling has continued to expand the wizarding community with a variety of spin-off projects, most notably the Fantastic Beasts series.

With J.K. Rowling working as producer and each season based on one of the seven books in the series, fans of the Harry Potter series can look forward to a faithful adaptation that digs further into the Wizarding World. Further on board as executive producers are Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts, while David Heyman is in discussions to join the creative team.
